As locals who spend every day in the neighborhoods we serve, we love keeping a pulse on what’s new around town. One of the things that makes Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach so special is how the local business scene continues to evolve, with exciting new restaurants, cafés, and retail concepts bringing fresh energy to our downtown areas. Here are a few new additions we’re excited to see opening soon.
Coucou (going into the former Nando Trattoria space)
One of the most anticipated openings is Coucou, a stylish French bistro concept already popular in Venice and West Hollywood, now coming to downtown Manhattan Beach. Located in the former Nando Trattoria space on Manhattan Avenue, Coucou is known for blending classic French bistro favorites with a California coastal influence, along with a strong aperitif and cocktail culture. Expect dishes like steak frites, oysters, and elevated French comfort classics in a lively, design-forward setting that feels perfectly suited for a night out downtown.
Peacock Café (coming to the former Altamura Café location)
Another exciting addition is Peacock Café, which will be taking over the former Altamura Café location. Known as a popular café concept in other markets, Peacock Café typically focuses on approachable breakfast and lunch fare, coffee, and casual meeting-friendly spaces. This should be a great addition for those looking for a relaxed daytime spot downtown.
Beyond Yoga (moving into the former Gum Tree space)
On the retail side, Beyond Yoga is expected to take over the former Gum Tree retail location. The brand, known for premium athleisure and lifestyle apparel, feels like a natural fit for the Manhattan Beach community and the active South Bay lifestyle.
Gum Tree relocating to the former newspaper store
Meanwhile, Gum Tree isn’t going far. The beloved local boutique and café brand is relocating to a new, smaller space nearby after losing its previous lease. The owners have shared that the new location will maintain the same curated mix of home goods, gifts, and lifestyle products that have made it a longtime local favorite.
Sushi Bar coming to the former Slay Hermosa space
Down in Hermosa Beach, the former Slay Hermosa location is expected to become home to Sushi Bar, an elevated omakase experience known for highly curated tasting menus featuring premium seasonal seafood. This continues the trend of more chef-driven dining concepts coming to Hermosa Beach as the area continues to evolve into a serious dining destination.
Why this matters for the community (and real estate)
New restaurants and retail are always a strong indicator of a healthy local economy and continued demand for coastal living. Walkability, dining options, and lifestyle amenities remain some of the biggest factors buyers mention when choosing Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, and these new additions only strengthen that appeal.
As longtime locals, it’s exciting to see our downtowns continue to evolve while still maintaining the small-town coastal character that makes the South Bay so special.
If you are curious how neighborhood developments like these impact home values or are thinking about making a move in Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach, we’re always happy to share what we’re seeing in the market.
